President Jonathan is currently Nigeria’s most hated and most loved leader ever. To some he’s like ''Jesus the Christ'' ,to others he’s a modern day Nebuchadnezzar. His home address makes him instant news material and no day ends without his name in print. 2015 promises to be more interesting for him as he seeks re-election.
Obiageli Ezekwesili
“Madam due process” as she’s often called snuck into the news in March, 2014 and has refused to leave. She is the currently the loudest voice in the #BringBackOurGirls movement and intends to stay in the spotlight until the Chibok girls are gone. Maybe she’ll get a political appointment next year.
Muhammadu Buhari
Buhari is that gluttony neighbor who never shows up until the meal is almost ready. As with previous pre-election years, Buhari showed up with a bang early 2014 to prepare the ground for his entry into the 2015 presidential election. He thrilled us with his ‘pauper’ tales and borrowed new clothes for a photo-shoot. There will be more of Buhari in the news in 2015 as he flies his party’s flag in the 2015 presidential election.
Lagos born politician, Obanikoro popularly known as Koro became an instant superstar the minute he was announced as minister of state for defense. QWERTY thugs just couldn’t have enough of him; KoroThis KoroThat KoroBeer. Losing at the Lagos PDP gubernatorial primaries did no harm to his growing popularity. Nigerians will see more of Koro next year as his political future remains uncertain.
Rotimi Amaechi
Hell knows no fury as an Ikwerre man who feels cheated. This year, Governor Amaechi of Rivers state took no prisoners, he bared it all. From trading words with the presidency to allegedly lobbying for the VP slot; Amaechi was a busy man. He’s expected to disappear in 2015; if the EFCC will let him.
Nigeria’s former President turned political critic, is that ‘’amebo’’ your mother warned you against. This year, Obasanjo rose to became one of the most controversial characters in Nigeria politics. When he was not criticizing his successor, President Goodluck Jonathan he was spilling dirty secrets into his new book ‘’My Watch’’. Now we keep close watch on Obasanjo as 2015 elections draws close wondering who he’ll endorse.
Ayo Fayose
Fayose started the year as a former governor but is ending it as a governor. He’s a Governor with an ''agbero swag''. The Ekiti Governor is the Self-appointed king of walfarism (stomach infrastructure). Fayose will keep making news headlines in 2015 as the opposition, APC cannot have enough of him.
Patience Jonathan
Nigeria’s first lady is reportedly one of the most powerful persons in the country as at today. Major decisions are allegedly made in her bedroom while key stakeholders meetings take place in her wing of the palatial Aso rock presidential villa. Apart from her political contributions, Dame Jonathan added two new phrases to the Nigerian comic phrase book this year ; ‘’Na Only You Waka Come’’ and ‘Chei!There is God O’.
Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor
Ignore the ‘’Pastor’’ used before his name, Pastor Oritsejafor is currently more popular in political circles than religious ones. The man of God was fingered in a fishy arms deal involving his private jet, South Africa and the Nigerian government. All efforts to clear his name proved abortive, until the scandal died a ‘Nigerian’ death. Expect more from Pastor Oritsejafor as we cross into 2015.
Diezani Allison- Madueke
Most powerful woman in Nigeria; forget Dame Jonathan (argue with your ancestors). Allison- Madueke who happens to be the longest serving minister in Nigeria, survived an embezzlement and over-spending scandal this year. She also recorded two first ; First female President of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) and first female chairperson of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).
