Aftermath of Election Deal; Umana Umana’s ‘Rented Protesters’ Turn Against Him As He fails To Pay Them
There was confusion in Uyo, the capital city of Akwa Ibom State on Sunday, April 12, 2015 as militants hired by the All Progressives Congress, APC, gubernatorial candidate, Umana Okon Umana turned on him.
The militants were said to have been imported from Ogoni, Rivers State and Cross River State, to ensure the APC candidate wins in the just concluded elections in Akwa Ibom.
They carried out a violent protest on Sunday on major streets in the city
According to reports reaching The Trent, the protesters stormed Umana’s house on Sunday after they did not receive their payment due for carrying out protests in the state. On reaching his house, the gate was locked and Umana was nowhere to be found.
The militants turned on their boss and protested in front of his house to the extent of threatening to burn down his mansion in Ewet Housing Estate.
The police arrived the scene and took the protesters into custody.
According to reports, some of the detained protesters have confessed being imported from Ogoni and Cross River State into Akwa Ibom State. They say they were brought in to ensure that the APC gubernatorial candidate wins the election. They claim they entered an agreement to be paid after the elections on Saturday.
The state police command is yet to make an official statement on the news
