Court Orders DSTV to Suspend Increase of Subscription Fee

MultiChoice Nigeria Limited, owners of DSTV recently announced a 20% price increase for all its satellite pay TV bouquets in Nigeria.

Multichoice said the increase, which was supposed to take effect from April 1st, was necessary for them to continue offering good quality service to its subscribers.
Following an outcry by Nigerians who embark on various approaches to protest the said upward review of their monthly traffic, 2 Lagos based Lawyers Osasuyi Adebayo and Oluyinka Oyeniji took it upon themselves to sue Multichoice Nigeria Limited.

Upon filing the suit and time constrain, the Federal high Court gave a restraining order to suspend the increase pending when the court sits and review the case. The judge ordered the intending increase to be suspended until the court meets on April 16th to hear the case.

This is exciting news for Nigerians who has been loyal customers to the company, though might be short lived, but it exciting to know that we have institutions to fight against unwarranted exploitation by service providers. This is a welcome development.
