MY EXPERIENCE WITH PEACE AIRLINE

If you are a frequent air traveler, Peace air should be a familiar name as it is one of the airlines we have in Nigeria. The establishment is fairly new as it was launched into our airspace about a year ago. Since it was launched, it has maintained an outstanding record.

It is the first to launch 7 aircraft, 3 state of the art Dornier 328 Jets and 4 Boeing 737-500 SP (special performance) jets, and about 7 destinations at once… This is huge going by what was obtainable before now. It is in order to say, “They came prepared”

Its aircrafts are fairly  new with a high maintenance contract with the world’s best maintenance organizations, BT Aviation Maintenance Company in the United Kingdom.  Because it’s Peace, it hopes to live up to its name.

The main objective is not only to provide a peaceful flight but also to lay the foundation for the entrenchment of peace for the development of the aviation sector and would end the level of animosity amongst operators. Very interesting indeed.

To ensure that nothing is left to chance regarding flight safety, the management signed a contract with (PHB) Powered by Hour; the world’s biggest PHB vendors, AJ Walter of United Kingdom for supply of aircraft spares. Air Peace also signed a five year contract with Canada’s Flyth Solutions incorporated for the installation of Automated Flight Information Reporting System (AFIRS) on all its aircrafts for flight tracking and engine trend monitoring. In addition, the airline also contracted Flight Scape Inc of Canada in partnership with IATA for effective flight data analysis.

Relaxing with its monthly magazine, which is very rich by the way, will give you an overview of how this beautiful bird came to be. The first thing that caught my eyes the first time I flew air peace was the name on the aircraft. It didn’t quite strike when I saw ‘Obinna’ written on the aircraft, I was like, maybe it’s the name of the captain, but I wondered why his name would be on the aircraft. Question in my head.

When the captain welcomed us and introduced himself, I was hoping to hear …this is Captain Obinna, but I didn’t….lol. As the aircraft taxied on the runway, I took the magazine by the seat pocket and there I saw it all. All the 7 aircrafts are named after the MD’s family members…. So far, I have flown in Obinna, Michael and Helen……wow!

One area that got me reading with so much interest was where he addressed the issue of ownership. Several stories had cited that the Ex First Lady, Patience Jonathan, was the owner of this Airline. In fact, I have had an argument with a senior friend who still holds the view that Mama Peace is the owner. But after reading the MD’s interview on how he started this airline business, his background history, his journey into abundance, it further reaffirmed my position from day one that Peace airline does not belong to mama peace.

Barrister Allen Onyema who hails from Ihiala in Anambra State is the owner of Peace Airline. He has entertained many interviews to refute and clear the air on what has been an annoying concept that he is managing the business for the Ex first lady. All his aircrafts are named after his children. Tell me, who will allow you do that to his/her business? In his words, he has never met the Ex first family.  Air peace is the fulfilment of his long held dream.

Another remarkable experience I had was the peace that surrounded the whole trip; starting from the check in point, the timely boarding (which I pray they sustain) to the take off and arrival. Wonderful experience I must confess.

Cost of ticket for me was reasonable. The first time, I got a ticket across the counter for N16, 000, while others were asking for N25, 000 upwards. Another time, I paid about N14, 000.00

Although the charges fluctuate between N14,000 to N20, 000, I would wish they remain stable and not shifting like Abuja weather. Other than that, it was a wonderful experience.

Kindly, share your experience with us.
