President Buhari addresses the APC leaders at the NEC meeting – The president explains his decisions on security, trips, others

President Buhari addressed APC leaders during the first formal  National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.  this is the first formal meeting since the party assumed office on May, 29th, 2015.

The president asked the politicians to continue to make sacrifices as his government seeks to revive Nigeria’s economy. Buhari added that he was aware that a lot of them are under pressure from Nigerians especially with regards to the tough economic situation.

“Many Nigerians probably do not know that 27 out of our (36) states cannot pay basic salaries,” he said.

The country’s leader expressed sadness that successive Peoples Democratic Party governments since 1999, failed to make provisions for times like these considering the volatility of oil prices.

According to the president his foreign trips were needed to give a personal touch to making a case for the APC-led government’s economic and other policies. “You need to present your economic policies personally to your partners and your neighbours personally,” Buhari stated.

The president further added that on security he gave his government a pass mark adding that the changes carried out by the government particularly the choice of new service chiefs, the purchase of soft and hardware and the promoting the morale of troops has given the army a new sense of purpose.

John Odigie-Oyegun, party’s national chairman, in his address of welcome, advised all members of the party to come together and support President Buhari and the party to deliver on its promises to Nigerians.

APC national caucus held meeting on March 22, 2016 as it was earlier announced by the party’s national chairman at the presidential villa. However, the party has postponed its Board of Trustees (BoT) meeting by one week.
