Governor Of The Year! See who top List

Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos state has been named “Nigerian 2015/2016 Governor of the Year”. The study conducted by the Center for International Advanced and Professional Studies (CIAPS) based on a comparative analysis of governors’ performance in Nigeria. Daily Post reports that the study tagged CIAPS Governors’ Performance Index (CGPI) is a monthly performance review of governors and their achievements. Olumuyiwa Ayoola, the CGPI coordinator, said that the activities of these governors were monitored and studied from their first day in office. Then the findings were graded and comparison drawn across the other governors.

Lagos state governor came first  within the study year with 74%, while Edo  and Cross River states ame second and third positions respectively with 70% and 65%. Commenting on the CGPI report, Prof Anthony Kila, CIAPS centre director and CGPI chairman, said that the “CGPI is a useful tool for democracy and good governance as it allows government to be objectively measured against their peers and compels all in power to be mindful of accountability”.

Kila expressed hope that the CGPI monthly reports would make governors improve their performances during their tenure and even enter into healthy competition between themselves for the benefit of their states. He advised those governors who rated poor to work harder and improve governance instead of starting a war or words with observers.

They were rated on security, salary payment, business opportunity etc.
