National Grazing Reserves Agency Bill Scales First Reading And Ihejirika Arrested

The Senate on Wednesday, June 22, passed a bill to establish grazing reserves for cattle across the country for first reading.

The bill is titled National Grazing Reserves Agency Bill, 2016 and sponsored by Rabiu Kwankwaso representing Kano Central senatorial district. Meanwhile, the House of Representatives passed a similar bill for second reading.

However, Senator Rowland Owie, a former chief whip, kicked against the passage of the bill describing it as time bomb which posses grave danger to the peace and unity of Nigeria.

Similarly, Femi Fani-Kayode recently described the proposed National Grazing Reserve bill as more evil than Boko Haram insurgency. The proposed bill aims at creating specific grazing areas as well as reducing recent attacks on state and communities in Nigeria by suspected Fulani herdsmen. There have been reports of attacks by herdsmen across the country which has been major worry among citizens.
