Biafra No Longer A Word For Secession But Protest Against Imbalance In Nigeria – SAN

Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, Mr. Mike Ahamba, Sunday, said the issue of Biafra was no longer a word for those who want to secede but “a word for protest against imbalance in Nigeria.” Ahamba made this statement to Vanguard in Owerri, while reacting to the current agitations in the country especially from the Southeast region.

He gave as one of his reasons that Biafrans are in every regions of the country. According to him, “The word Biafra is no longer for secessionists or those who want to secede, is now a word for protest against imbalance in Nigeria. “Because we have Biafra in the Middle belt, South-South, South-west, North-east among others they all have their own name.

They are those who think that they are not well accommodated in this country. To that extent I agree with Biafra.” But he was of the view that the Igbo cannot leave Nigeria for anybody, he said: “To the extent of making me live Nigeria, I do not agree, I am not leaving this country for anybody because I have invested in it.

“There is nobody who can force me out of this country because I have invested so much. Whatsoever the problem, we shall discuss it all of us as Nigerians.” He continued: “let me tell you while the sit at home order was successful, they put one emotional point in it, honouring the dead, and many stayed at home to honour the dead in the Biafra /Nigeria civil war.

“Who had not been honoured in any form whatsoever even do we say no victor no vanquish that was what touched peoples heart they decided to bury them by saying we appreciate your efforts.

“Let me also say this, it was the federal government that created the present impulse by arresting and detaining Kanu against the law. They created sympathy for him.” Also, Ahamba recalled a similar incident, during the NPN and NPP election in Nigeria, which he said played out in the eastern region. According to him, “Look I entered into politics as a very young lawyer. I was of the NPN a national party, those who were of the old Imo and Anambra, would today if they remember know that ,NPN, was a popular party in the East and nobody was going to NPP.

“During that election, Nnamdi Azikiwe came in as candidate of the NPP and the FEDECO disqualified him. “After which the court reinstated him, and the people knowing their emotional attachment to Azikiwe.

“They say he was been cheated because he was an Igbo man and that they do not want an Igbo man to be President of Nigeria.

“The effect was that all of us who are in NPN except for few of us failed the election. This is exactly what is happening now, their handling of Kanu was very defective.”
