In a video posted on Instagram under an account name jacksparrow, Soyinka advised President Muhammadu Buhari to take a rest and expressed hope that he will not put himself up for another election in 2019. Basically, he was suggesting that the absentee status quo should remain till 2019, when Buhari would decline any interest to contest for presidential election.
He said: "My view is that Buhari needs to take a rest; I hope he doesn’t put himself up for presidency in 2019.However, that doesn’t mean his programmes; his projects should go and take a rest.
He also went further to advise that the projects under this administration should not be neglected especially the fight against corruption.
"Peoples can be very scornful and say: “Oh, is it anti-corruption we want to eat? People are hungry and so on.
"So it is up to us to see that programmes like that - like the anti-corruption programme - are empowered."
