Abuja Metro Line Goes Live As President Buhari Commissions It Today (SEE PHOTOS).



The Abuja Metro that has been in the works for over 11 years come to live as part of the first phase which comprises lots 1A and 3, whivh is only an integral part of the six lots which form the FCT railway system was commissioned today by the President.


The event which  took place in the Abuja Metro Station,  Central Business District is the flagship of the 12 completed railway stations under the package.
The 45.245km of standard gauge rail line running between the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport and Abuja Metro Station is the first of its kind in West Africa.



This commissioning would mark formal commencement of rail service and the fulfilment of a long-awaited dream for modern state-of-the-art mass transit systems for the FCT.

According to the President’s Special Assistant on New Media, Bashir Ahmad, the Light Rail mass transit covers 12 stations within the Abuja metropolis.

He added that the rail line is the first phase of the metro line in Abuja.

After launching the train service, President Buhari alongside other dignitaries, including Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai took a train ride from Abuja Central area to the airport, a distance of over 44 kilometres.


The President also inspected the newly-built Nnamdi Azikiwe International airport terminal of the Abuja Mass transit train service.

The rail line is the first phase of a metro line for the Federal Capital Territory.
